ASK A BREWER: Q: What are the best plums to use in your brew? A: Santa Rosa plums sweetened with a little honey. Q: Where do you get the honey from? A farm in Riverside for $6-$8 a lb. (ask Tom). Just ferment at room temperature. You can also use Julian Boysenberry Syrup to make a great mead. Add the honey, water, and yeast first, then add the fruit in secondary. This will give you a sugar content of 24-26%. Hydrobrew and BrewMart can also give you more information. Q: What kind of beer should I brew to serve at a wedding? A: Brew a low alcohol like a Wit. Ladies like cream ales, pale ales, and ciders.
You would never know the hot summer is here by listening to everyone who brewed last month, I counted 20 different beers!
